What will it cost to tune my old piano?
The typical upright piano usually costs $125 to tune. If the piano is more difficult to tune, or needs repairs before tuning, it will cost a little more. Once I see your piano, I will be able to provide an exact price.
How long does it take to tune a piano?
For a piano that has been serviced recently, about 1 1/2 hours. If the piano hasn't been serviced in several years it is best to allow at least three hours. It takes about thirty minutes to carefully open and thoroughly inspect a piano before a tuning pin can even be turned. If the piano is really flat, I will have to do one or two tunings before I can fine tune it. All of these tunings will take a couple of hours. Finally, it takes a few minutes to reassemble the piano cabinet.
How often should pianos be tuned?
At least once a year is good. Ideally, pianos should be tuned twice a year. In our area of Kentucky, it is great to tune pianos in the late Fall and late Spring. This usually allows the piano to sound its best for the longest as our climate changes from cold to hot. However, there is no bad time to tune a piano!
What is the best part about tuning pianos?
Definitely meeting people and learning about their pianos. It is a wonderful feeling to service a piano and then get to hear the customer play it and realize how much better their piano sounds.
